How to Detect a Roof Leak
At some point in time, every homeowner will probably have to deal with a leaky roof. But to minimize the damage, you need to learn how to identify a roof leak. By recognizing the very first signs of a leak, you can avoid having to call for a major roofing repair.
Look for water spots or stains – Walk around your uppermost floors and inspect the ceiling and walls. Look for any stains. Almost all water spots are caused by some type of leak. Call a roofing repair contractor to help you determine whether the stains are caused by a leaky roof.
Make a note of any missing shingles – Have you noticed missing shingles on your roof? Shingles act as barriers to water and other damaging elements. Ask a contractor to check your roof and replace any missing shingles they see.
Check during a storm – Rainstorms are an opportune time to check your roof. Take a flashlight with you to the attic and point it toward the roof. Do you notice any trickles of water coming down? Do you see any damp areas? If you do, then you most certainly have a leak.
